John was born in the community of Alert Bay, B.C. to Herbert and Doreen Lancaster. He was born June 03, 1960 in the village of Alert Bay which is located directly across from the town of Port McNeil about 70 miles northwest of the tip of Vancouver Island. His tribe is known as the Nimpkish Band and he is proud to be Kwakiutl which is the name of his nation. He credits his uncles, Alfred, Pat, and Norman Seaweed and his brother Don Lancaster for teaching him the art of carving silver and gold traditional pieces. He also credits his entire family for inspiring him to become a carver. His entire family work as carvers and are very artistic in the First Nations design of their traditional art. He makes his living by being a carver. He has been carving for the past 10 or more years in both silver and gold.  We have some Copper bracelet carvings as well.
